Formats of the material being cut

The dimensions of the material being cut are determined by the paper format standards and printing presses.

The formats are indicated by basic side x high side

According to the width/height ratio (basic side to high side)the following paper sizes are distinguished:

On the international level the DIN format series (DIN - Deutsche Industrie-Norm) are the most widely used. Other important series are the American, English and Asian sizes.

Criteria of the DIN standard:

The largest format in the A series is A0 which has an area of one square meter.

The aspect ratio of basic side : high side = 1 :/Lessons/Formats of the material being cut/Grafiken/wurzel2.gif = 1 : 1,414

The DIN format series follow the half-area or double-area rules.
